General Medical Services

Recalls: A recall system is in place to help you remember long term follow-up appointments and follow up of abnormal test results.

Our surgery also participates in State & Territory recall systems (eg: Pap Test Register) please advise your doctor if you do not wish to be included.

“Day Only Clinic”: This clinic is for urgent problems that arise on the day e.g. a sick child, vomiting, acutely unwell person etc.  These appointments can only be booked on the day so please phone as early as possible as they are filled very quickly.

Referral to a Consultant: An important element of General Practice is the provision of continuity of care.   To ensure that you receive the best continuing care we need to see you before referral to a specialist.   If you have previously attended a particular specialist and require a referral for a continuing condition please advise reception, who will discuss with your Doctor whether consultation is necessary.   Please note it is illegal to pre-date referrals so it is essential to see the Doctor before seeing the specialist in order to get a maximum refund.

Teaching Function:  We believe that experienced General Practitioners have a responsibility to assist in the training of the future generations of family doctors.   This practice is an accredited undergraduate teaching practice for Newcastle University.   From time to time,  there may be medical, nursing or paramedicine students with us in the consulting room.   We all benefit from the stimulating input of these students, but should you feel uncomfortable with this arrangement please advise reception.

Registrars: This Practice is also an accredited teaching practice for postgraduate training in General Practice. Doctors training in General Practice are fully qualified doctors and are known as GP Registrars. This Practice will often have GP Registrars undertaking 6-12 month terms
